Gabbeh (meaning raw, natural, uncut in the Persian language Farsi) represents a rough and primitive carpet with patterns inspired by the Qashqai people of the Zagros mountains in Southwestern Iran. Perhaps the most well known and loved designs from Iran, they have inspired beautiful work from Indian weavers as well. The patterns are usually simple, with geometric blocks of color and sometimes small animal figures and accents. Though tribal, the designs often invoke a contemporary kind of feel and make an impact in any home.
