Like the Gabbeh (from the Persian language farsi; raw, natural, uncut) Shekarlou rugs are woven by the Qashqai tribal confederation of the Zagros mountains in Southwestern Iran. They are manufactured by handspun wool, and the yarns are dyed using plant dyes. The patterns are often simple and very much like the Gabbeh, but sometimes have more intricate colors and designs made possible by the higher knot count and somewhat shorter pile. In fact, the Kashkuli are known as the best weavers of the Qashqai Every bit as durable and plush as the Gabbeh, the tribal but somewhat contemporary designs make an impact in any home.
