Like the Gabbeh (from the Persian language farsi; raw, natural, uncut) Kashkuli rugs are woven by members of the Qashqai tribal confederation in the Zagros mountains of Southwestern Iran. They are manufactured by handspun wool dyed using all natural vegetable dyes. The patterns are often simple and very much like the Gabbeh, but sometimes have more intricate colors and designs made possible by the higher knot count and somewhat shorter pile. The Kashkuli are known as the best weavers of the Qashqai, and the quality of Kashkuli rugs rivals any. Every bit as durable and plush as the Gabbeh, the tribal but somewhat contemporary designs make an impact in any home.
